Roadmap
To ask for something, reply to any fwd email, use Send feedback in the app, or post on r/usefwd.
Every ask counts and helps me decide, but I don’t go by the count alone: some big things take much longer than small ones.
Planned 14
iPhone and iPad support (an app, or a web version as a stopgap)
An iPhone and iPad app to send and receive links, text and files with your other devices, end-to-end encrypted like the rest of fwd. A web version as a stopgap is harder because of how the encryption keys work, but it's being looked at.Windows app
A native Windows app, so fwd works on a Windows PC without keeping a browser open: send and receive links, text and files, with notifications. Until then, the fwd extension works on Windows in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers.Firefox extension
A fwd extension for Firefox and Firefox-based browsers such as LibreWolf, doing what the Chrome extension does today: send the page, a link, text or a file, and receive forwards with notifications.A public API (free tier, rate limited)
A way to send to your devices from scripts, servers and automation tools, for example a command-line tool or an Apprise plugin. The sending side encrypts too, like your devices do. How it works and what it costs aren't decided yet.Linux support
fwd on Linux beyond the browser, such as a tray app. The fwd extension already works on Linux in Chrome and Chromium.Send links and files to friends and family
Send a link or a file to someone else who uses fwd, not just to your own devices, still end-to-end encrypted.Choose the folder received files are saved to (Android)
Choose the folder on your Android phone where received files are saved. Part of the same setting as saving automatically.Optional auto-delete of old files, after a set time or when storage is full (links kept)
An optional setting that deletes your oldest files after a time you choose, or when storage is full, so you never clear space by hand and new forwards keep arriving. Links and text are kept. Off unless you turn it on.Save received files automatically on Android
A setting on Android to save received files automatically, as Chrome and the Mac app already do.Send more than 5 files at a time
Send more than 5 files in one forward. Today a forward carries up to 5 files, so larger sets go in batches. It needs a change in every app.Android without Google Play: an APK download, F-Droid and other app stores
Install fwd on Android without Google Play, for example with a direct download from usefwd.io or from other app stores.Change the account's email address (to any provider)
Change the email address your account signs in with, to any provider. Today the address is fixed when the account is created.Light theme (extension and Android)
A light theme for the extension and the Android app. The Mac app already follows your system's light or dark setting.Open a link straight in the browser when its Android notification is tapped (a setting)
A setting so tapping a received link's notification opens the link in your browser straight away, instead of opening it in fwd first. Today the notification's Open button does this.
Considering 15
Notification mirroring (read only, with a per-app mute)
See your Android phone's notifications on your computer, read only, with a switch to mute the apps you don't care about. It would come before replying from the computer.SMS: read and reply from a computer or several phones
Read and reply to your text messages from a computer. Google Play limits which apps can access SMS, so this needs care.Automatic clipboard sharing across devices
Copy on one device and paste on another without pressing send. Today you can send your clipboard with one tap from the Mac and Android apps.A "Keep" button that pins a received link's notification on Android
A Keep button on a received link's Android notification that pins it, so Clear all doesn't remove it. Since Android 14, a pinned notification can still be swiped away while the phone is unlocked.A Share button on received forwards (opens Android's share menu)
A Share button on a received link, text or file that opens Android's share menu, so you can pass it straight to WhatsApp, a notes app, a file manager or Quick Share.A wide (landscape) layout for the extension, with a landscape or portrait switch
A wide, landscape layout for the browser extension, so you can see everything at once, with a switch between landscape and portrait. An independent security audit
An independent security firm reviewing fwd's encryption and apps, with the results published.Clear or archive a link once it has been opened
Move a link out of your history once you've opened it, into an archived list you can still search, like your browser's history.Dismiss or mark as read from the desktop (notification buttons)
Buttons on mirrored notifications to dismiss them or mark them as read from your computer. Depends on notification mirroring.IFTTT integration
Connect fwd to IFTTT so other apps and services can send to your devices. It would build on the public API.Open a link by clicking its row in the extension history (no details view first)
Click a link in the extension's history to open it straight away, instead of opening its details first. Today you can hover over a link and use its Open button.Reply to messages from the computer (WhatsApp and other apps)
Reply to WhatsApp and other messages from your computer. It would come after notification mirroring.Save rules by file type: send .jpg to Photos, .mp4 to Videos, chosen per device
Rules for received files based on their name or extension, for example photos to one folder and videos to another, with a choice of which devices apply them. It would build on saving received files automatically.Two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app
An authenticator app as a second sign-in step. Today an email code alone can't read your forwards: a new device also has to be approved on one of your devices or set up with your recovery key.Vote for requests on the public roadmap
Vote for the requests you want most right on this page, instead of asking by email or on Reddit.
Done 5
Show founding-member status, and the limits that apply during the beta
Settings > Account in each app shows your plan (Beta, Founding member or Free) and its limits for file size, storage and devices.A count of new forwards on the extension and Mac menu bar icons
A number on the fwd extension's toolbar icon, and beside the Mac app's menu bar icon, showing how many forwards arrived that you haven't seen yet.A tablet icon instead of the phone icon
Each device type has its own icon in your device list, including tablets.Tablets say "This tablet" instead of "This phone"
On a tablet, fwd calls it "This tablet" instead of "This phone".Turn off the notification when a link is received
With Open links automatically on, the extension opens a received link straight away without also showing a notification.
