fwd:

Terms of use

Effective 10 October 2026 · Updated 11 October 2026 · Beta

The beta

fwd: is in beta and free while the beta lasts. Features, beta limits and these terms may change. We'll tell you by email before anything changes that affects your data or what you pay.

Private beta members

Accounts that participate in the private beta keep a permanently free plan after the beta ends, with files up to 25 MB each, 1 GB of account storage and up to 5 devices. It includes links, text and files, end-to-end encryption and synced, searchable history within the storage allowance. The larger limits take effect when the beta ends; the current beta limits below apply until then. Joining the waitlist alone does not qualify.

This plan stays free for as long as fwd: operates. It is not a timed trial and does not include every future paid feature. Rate limits and acceptable-use rules still apply; changes to general beta terms do not remove this permanent free-plan benefit.

Your account

You need an invite and an email address you control. Keep your devices and recovery key safe: anyone with an unlocked device on your account, or your recovery key and access to your email, can read your history. We can't recover your history if you lose every device and your recovery key.

Limits

During the beta: files up to 10 MB, links and text up to 64 KB, 500 MB of storage per account, up to 5 devices, and rate limits that prevent abuse. We refuse what exceeds a limit with an explanation; we never quietly truncate or delete your data to make room.

Acceptable use

fwd: is for sending things between your own devices. Don't use it to break the law, to distribute malware, or to attack or overload the service. We can't see your content, but we may suspend accounts that abuse the service, based on how it's used.

Your content

You keep all rights to what you send. Because it's end-to-end encrypted, we only store and relay it in encrypted form.

Ending

You can delete your account at any time (see Privacy). We may end the beta or the service; if we do, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email where we reasonably can.

No warranty

The beta is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for data loss, arising from your use of fwd:. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be limited.
